For those who I've talked with on the phone in the last few weeks, you'd know that I was debating getting a few free aikido lessons a couple blocks away from my apartment. I'll have to post again about the final verdict on such things, but the first day was fun and interesting. It conflicted with the footwork for taekwondo and with the footwork for karate, but was similar to the footwork for fencing in that most people are right handed and I am left (our front feet are always supposed to be on the same side apparently.) But I learned a few things with footwork and learned a few throws. Hopefully tonight's thing will be better in that first off, there's weapons practice. Secondly, there's another sensei that will be teaching tonight. Lastly, I will have bought an actual uniform and not be using something that smells like a bum on a hot summer's day.
We'll see. One thing I can mention though, is that my hamstrings and butt are more sore than I expected. I guess the having a good arch in your back for good posture thing doesn't really work out too well in aikido.
In other news, countdown to mcats is 24 days. I'm reviewing physics now and setting myself up to take a practice test tomorrow and/or several practice sections of physics and random verbal sections (never really have problems with biology for some reason). Wish me luck!
Interesting. I've never done anything with martial arts, but I knew a guy, ex-army, who had three black belts, including one in Aikido. I've thought about doing something, but I'm not sure what or when.
